General Statement of Responsibilities and Duties

This Communication Associate sits within the Marketing team where the coordination of research, customer feedback, and customer-facing messaging takes place. The team works closely to establish key marketing messages seasonally, collaborating with the Ecommerce and Creative teams, ensuring continuity across customer-facing touchpoints and the maintenance of brand standards.  This role will work with internal and external partners in leveraging owned media, influencer, and press outlets to build awareness and drive engagement amongst new and core audiences, ultimately contributing to the growth of The Met Store’s customer base and digital business.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Supports the building of The Met Store brand leveraging social media as key communication tool
  • Implements holistic social media and press campaigns by supporting communication strategy in close alignment with the digital marketing team
  • Assists in the creation of a compelling editorial proposition across multiple social media platforms
  • Actively supports The Met Store social media community across multiple platforms at the same time cultivating new audiences on social media with reference to customer strategy and wider Museum partnerships
  • Sustains current media relationships (long-lead, short-lead, blogs, online mainstream media and trade)
  • Builds and cultivates new relationships with editors, stylists, writers, bloggers, and social media influencers working to secure best possible press coverage for The Met Store
  • Collaborates internally with Merchants, Inventory Planners,  Creative, Marketing, Store, and Ecommerce teams, to cover all aspects of the brand including Met Publications, creating engaging content on appropriate channels
  • Creates, scripts and implements detailed monthly content and campaign plans for all social media channels with attention to editorial message, tone of voice, imagery and the behaviors on different platforms, optimizing the audience's experience according to seasonal strategy set by Manager of Audience Insight and Engagement
  • Reviews social media behaviors against that of our current customers and contributes to the targeting of key customer segments according to business strategy; and provide insights to inform strategy decisions
  • Builds out a monthly calendar of special events, holidays, birthdays, world celebration days to join in on trending conversations, and relays to marketing and ecommerce team for cross-promotional opportunities
  • Balances reach, frequency and engagement with brand content, and influences on monetization when appropriate
  • Works with co-brand partners, designers, makers, and vendors to leverage brand messages through their channels and ours
  • Briefs promotional materials; assists with the crafting and dissemination of press releases
  • Pitches products, stories, angles to media being in regular communication with contacts, responds to their needs for features and stories
  • Manages responses to media enquiries
  • Alongside Manager of Audience Insight and Engagement, hosts media in formal and informal settings
  • Reports weekly, quarterly, and annually and on campaign basis as needed on social media engagement and revenue metrics
  • Monitors competitor activity and becomes aware of social media and press trends; awareness of new features, pages and media outlets for press in particular
  • Protects the brand in the public sphere at all levels
  • Performs other duties as needed

 

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Excellent communications skills – written, verbal and presentational
  • Editorial eye, fast original content creation across social media channels
  • Collaborative in nature, highly motivated
  • Demonstrates a relentless tenacity to deliver
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent initiative, execution & follow-through
  • Ability to cope well with a changing and developing business
  • Ability to work after regular office hours on occasion

 

Knowledge & Education:

  • B.A. required; communications, art history, liberal arts background preferred
  • 2+ years of social media experience ideally gained in a fashion or lifestyle retail environment
  • Proven ability to implement social media strategy across multiple platforms
  • 2+ years of press experience with evidence of success in driving brand awareness and contributing to strategy
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT); Social Media Management Platform management tool(s); Google Analytics
