Museum Manager / Assistant to Director

LIGHT ART SPACE, a newly founded, private interdisciplinary Center for Art in Berlin is looking for a Director Assistant (full-time position, starting in May 2018).

The focus is on light and light art in its various forms and the interplay between art, science and new technologies. Situated in the exceptional setting of old industrial halls from the 19th century, on an island, Light Art Space offers about 5.000 square meter of exhibition space, 10.000 square meter of operating space. The first pre-opening exhibition is planned for Dec. 2018, the public opening for 2020.

The Director Assistant supports the director with all manner of the institution development and establishing the center in Berlin including a wide scope of museum management functions.

The assistant supports the director to develop short- and long-term plans and procedures, to establish structures and departments as well to expand the team and to design workflows. The Assistant reports to the Director and is a key member of the team. In the course of this work, the Assistant regularly collaborates closely with other departments and is the interface between director and the other departments/ team.

Requirements: Qualified candidates will have a B.A. degree in museum studies or related field, strong knowledge of contemporary art, and at least three to four years of professional experience in a similar position or equivalent that demonstrates experience in managing such an institution. Superior judgment and a high level of professionalism as well the ability to work independently is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, with excellent verbal, written communication in German and English as well as computer skills are required; further foreign language skills (written and verbal) are desirable. The candidate must be highly organized, detail-oriented, efficient, and proactive, with excellent time management and flexibility to manage rapid and frequent shifts in priorities.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
