Job Description

Hermitage Foundation UK     

The Foundation works in the UK for the State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, one of the greatest museums in the world. Founded in 2003, it is structured as a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Its broad objectives are ‘to provide assistance and support to the Hermitage in respect of its artistic, scientific, cultural and educational activities’. The director will report directly to the chairman and trustees of the Foundation.

The Board of Trustees (who include Professor Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Hermitage) are looking for someone who can help develop the cultural bridge between St. Petersburg and London through:

 

  • 1. Managing the Hermitage Foundation UK: administering the contacts, friends and patrons as well as financial, charitable and administrative compliance.

  • 2. Assisting with Hermitage seminars, conferences and exhibitions 

  • 3. Introducing Hermitage scholars to the UK and UK scholars to St Petersburg

  • 4. Initiating tours of the Hermitage and St Petersburg for the Friends and other groups, as well as managing the UK Friends of the Hermitage

  • 5. The publication in English of Hermitage catalogues 

  • 6. Finding sponsorship for all these initiatives as well as helping to underwrite the ongoing costs of the Foundation

  • 7. And generally, formulating strategies to raise awareness of the Hermitage Museum in the UK and the western world

 

 

Requirements

•              University graduate in art history or similar

•              Management experience, including exhibitions and publications

•              Experience of fund raising

•              Fluent English - the ability to speak Russian would be an advantage

•              Being based in London with flexibility to travel for work matters

 

The appointment will be made at the end of April 2018 and confirmed after a trial period of a of six months. Salary in line with experience.
