Part-Time Gallery Attendant

DMA Mission:

Schedule:
Flexible schedules including: Evening and early morning posts, Thursdays until 9:15 pm, “Late Night” Fridays until midnight, Saturdays and Sundays until 5:15 pm, special events, holidays, and regular museum and office hours.

Scope of Position:
The part-time Gallery Attendant works less than 30 hours a week under the daily direct supervision of the Gallery Attendant Supervisor to safeguard works of art, ensuring Museum policies are observed and that the art work is not touched or damaged in any way. The position represents the Dallas Museum of Art by making a good first impression to visitors as their initial point of contact. The Gallery Attendant position serves visitors of the Dallas Museum of Art by providing information about the DMA Members programs, Museum guidance, safety, programs, activities, and the Dallas Arts District community in general.  

Primary Responsibilities: 
• Proactively safeguard art against theft, vandalism or damage by greeting and observing visitors in the galleries
• Report all suspicious conditions or persons; providing descriptions of potential violators of Museum policies, report accidents, injuries and hazardous conditions to your GA Supervisor  
• Administer DMA guidelines and emergency procedures, effectively assisting with difficult situations and emergency response, including evacuations and shelter-in-place events
• Inspect art and facility conditions, annotating concerns and maintenance issues on the Opening/Closing checklist
• Contact the GA Supervisor immediately to report any activity that could potentially result in art damage
• Ensure the safety and positive experience of our visitors by remaining alert and watchful; circulate frequently through assigned posts and patrols to deter acts of vandalism, theft or negligence  
• Greet and assist visitors with a high level of customer service, providing a welcoming and friendly environment for the visitors to enjoy their experience
• Provide information to visitors about the DMA Members programs, Museum policies, events, services, and the community extending through the Dallas Arts District
• Diplomatically treat the public with courtesy and respect while upholding Museum policies
• Work with a diverse group of people, including all levels of the executive, management and frontline teams

Key Qualifications:
• Ability to learn museum policies and calmly respond to emergency procedures
• Ability to proactively interact with visitors and provide guidance on DMA policies and guidelines
• Ability to conduct detailed inspections in accordance with DMA procedures
• Ability to fill out forms accurately and completely
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Professional and business-like in appearance and demeanor
• Ability to work within a patrol area or post and stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, around event times that change
• Ability to interact and communicate professionally, courteously and effectively with a wide range of DMA Members, visitors, volunteers, staff and contractors 

Education, Experience, and Certification:
• Experience in a customer/visitor service environment, demonstrating exceptional service skills
• Prior experience in a museum environment or security role is a plus
