The Role

The successful candidate will join the Christie’s Art Transport team and be responsible for arranging the domestic and international transport of pre-sale property for clients.   This includes collection, packing/crating, freight, customs brokerage, insurance and delivery segments.  

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to

  • Predetermine appropriate packing and transport methods for all lots to be sold based on property attributes, such as, size, weight, material, quantity, fragility, value etc.
  • Procure packing and transportation services from our partner vendors and present transport options and cost for internal and external clients as needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Specialist Art Departments to best understand property requirements, sales volumes and issue resolution.
  • Manage all transport requests and operations through Christie's systems and regularly present KPI metrics
  • Provide an exceptional pre-sale experience to our clients within tight deadlines.
  • Work closely with the Pre-Sale Team to deliver an integrated, consistent and exceptional client experience. 
  • Monitor and execute quote requests in a timely manner in line with established service levels. 
  • Apply for CITES license applications, as appropriate. 
  • Demonstrate flexibility in applying both tariff-based pricing and bespoke pricing as needed
  • Monitor the progress of shipments, working with vendors to troubleshoot and rectify problems in a timely manner and ensuring that interested parties are apprised of the status of the shipment. 
  • Liaise with the Shipping Managers to provide input on shippers’ performance and maintenance of service level requirements and KPIs. 
  • Ship in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. 
  • Prepare and submit customs documentation to the appropriate regulatory bodies or shippers 
  • Ensure the timely collection of invoices and payment to appropriate shipping and external services vendors  

The Candidate​

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 2-3 years of industry experience
  • Prior experience in the shipping coordination of artwork and/or luxury goods preferred.
  • Experience shipping high value property both domestically and internationally preferred.
  • Experience with US F&W, CITES, Carnets and AES preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including superior written and spoken communication.
  • Ability to remain composed and professional in stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Strong follow-up skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, and proficient in Microsoft Excel
